The 38th New Zealand National Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention
Press Release 16/10/2015
Taupō to host science fiction and fantasy event in 2017
Organisers of LexiCon, the 38th New Zealand National Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention, have just announced that the 2017 event will be held at the Suncourt Hotel in Taupō from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 June (Queen’s Birthday Weekend).
Convention Committee co-chairs, Andi Buchanan and Cassie Hart say they’re thrilled with the decision.
“We were really keen to hold Lexicon in a New Zealand town that had never hosted one before so we could introduce the concept to the local community,” says Andi Buchanan. “After speaking to a number of venues across the country, Taupō came up tops.”
“We chose the Suncourt Hotel in Taupō because it ticks all the boxes; has a range of accommodation options, three conference rooms and is in a beautiful, central part of New Zealand,” says Cassie Hart. “The hotel has been incredibly accommodating and we’re certain it’s going to be an excellent venue to host people from around the country and overseas.”
Organisers are expecting a big turn out to the event, which is run by a different committee every year.
The programme, yet to be announced, will be packed with inspiring panel discussions, workshops, book launches, parties and more.
“We’re already building a full programme around the LexiCon theme, plus we’ll have some popular names on the speaker list,” says programming coordinator Dan Rabarts.
